The matcha whisk - Japanese Chasen - is indispensable for the traditional tea ceremony. This bamboo whisk with 100 bristles is probably the most commonly used matcha whisk. It is suitable for all Japanese powdered teas alike. With it, matcha can be whisked as both Usucha (thin tea, about 80ml water per 1g matcha) and Koicha (strong, thick tea, about 10ml water per 1g matcha). It is suitable for both beginners and professionals alike.
The Chasen are handcrafted from a single piece of bamboo. An experienced person needs about two hours to make a single bamboo whisk from the first to the last step. The bamboo piece is repeatedly split with a sharp special knife.
